Day 1 - Welcome aboard this journey

Welcome! I'm glad you've stumbled upon my new blog! Here, I'm going to give highlights, tips, and tricks on modifying or reducing your accent so you can be better understood under any circumstances. If you're a non-native speaker of English, chances are, your accent will never completely go away. (It's a wonderful part of who you are!) If someone tells you otherwise, most likely they want your money more than they want to help you. If you're an actor, in need of learning an accent for a specific role, I'm here to help you, too. I'd like to provide you with resources and exercises to get you started on your journey of bringing authenticity to your character. About me: With over a decade's worth of teaching ESL, Pronunciation, Spanish, and tutoring around the globe, I bring a wealth of classroom experience directly to you, the learner. Degrees in Spanish and Anthropology with an emphasis in Linguistics and certification in teaching ESL give me a strong educational background from which to spring forth and create dynamic curricula. Studies in Speech and Hearing Sciences and with Patsy Rodenburg (Sir Ian McKellan and Dame Judi Dench's voice coach) have further honed my skills to focus on listening to your communicative needs and goals. The end result: Results! (---And loads of fun along the way!) In the coming days, I'll post the first of my helpful hints. As you read and practice, be sure to share your comments. This is how we'll learn, grow, and improve together! Talk soon, Michelle
